The pop-up exhibition Studio Conjured evokes the singular studio world of emerging sculptor Tamás Melkovics.
Melkovics’s sculptural practice simultaneously engages with the organic legacy of biomorphic abstraction and the rational structures of geometric and constructivist thought, while consciously seeking to dissolve the boundaries between these traditions and establish a distinctive synthesis. His medium- and large-scale works often take the form of modular compositions constructed from aluminium or patinated steel elements. What unites them is a formal language in which the system of relationships between individual units becomes paramount.
At the same time, the exhibition extends beyond the presentation of finished works. Alongside large- and medium-scale sculptures, drawings, and canvases, it also offers insight into further layers of “studio thinking.” The selection incorporates processes of 3D modelling and printing, as well as sculptural intuitions shaped in collaboration with gravity itself, where material and form evolve through a dynamic interplay. Together, these elements reflect Melkovics’s instinctive drive to place his timeless artistic language in dialogue with the millennia-old tradition of sculpture: from the plastic arts of pre-Columbian civilisations — Maya, Aztec, and Inca cultures — through the legacy of medieval and Renaissance stone carving, to such defining figures of modernity as Auguste Rodin, Henry Moore, Constantin Brâncuși, Isamu Noguchi, Alexander Calder, Tony Cragg, and Bruno Gironcoli.
